Did you know that the epidermis on our hands and faces is the most subjected to exposure, day in, day out?
Our precious hands are constantly under attack from the elements (UVA and UVB rays, wind, temperature changes,
hard water, soap, etc.) – you name it, our hands have to deal with it! All this adds up to dry, irritated skin
and even premature aging. In fact, the more the skin's protective barrier is compromised, the greater the
chances of damage. Not to mention that winter is particularly hard on hands.
Useful tips
You should follow this advice at all times, but especially during the cold season:
- Liberally moisturize your hands with cream made for hands, at least twice daily.
- Apply your hand cream before going to bed; your skin will have time to soak up all the moisture it needs during the night; you'll wake up with super soft hands!
- Whenever possible, use lipid-enriched products, which really fight dryness; try to avoid regular soap.
- If your job puts you in frequent contact with detergents, use a "barrier" cream (waterproof and ultra protective).
- Wear gloves! Not just when going outside, but when doing housework too.
Cream, cream and more cream
Since it's important to moisturize your hands often, you need to select a cream that is suited to your particular
needs (scented or unscented, oil-free or not, light or heavy texture, etc.). As is the case with face creams, there
is a wide selection to choose from:
- Soothing creams: to alleviate redness and tightness;
- Protective creams: for chapped or very dry hands;
- Nourishing or regenerating creams: especially formulated to replenish skin's natural protective barrier;
- Creams with UV protection;
- Creams that strengthen nails;
- Hand repair cream: for very damaged areas
- Etc.
